This and that, everything including the kitchen sink.

Kitchen Challenge Day Two, Three and Four.

Well, in spite of the spirit being willing, the body just wasn’t up to a kitchen clean today. However I got LOTS done! Or rather, Bekah got lots done and I helped.

All my laundry is done. That’s a huge one with a bad back and no washer and dryer hookups in this apartment.

The shelves got up up in the bedroom! Not decorated yet, but they are there!

The worktable over the bed was brilliant, but it got put up and then just stayed there. Finally got it cleared off and taken down, to be replaced only when I’m doing a project, and only until I get a work area elsewhere.

A freshly made bed! With my new sheets. Heaven!

Tried the discount brand haircolor to touch up my roots. Worked as expected, barely. But it will get me to the next month I think.

Day Three

Did get the bed done, which was kind of major. The cats were thrilled, all four curled up and cohabitated. I even had a decent nights sleep…or rather, morning. So I’m starting my day with a picture of what I got done.

May not look like much, but when you spend as much time in bed as I have to, it’s major!

OK, Fridge cleaning time. I did wipe off the white boards already. Here goooooeeessss!

I found a candy bar! Incentive!

finished fridge :YES! The fridge is finished, and I even got the message board area behind the fridge door cleaned and organized.

DAY FOUR

Well today’s Cure is to plan a party for the end of the month, I’m going to skip that and keep working on the kitchen. That clean fridge oasis in the middle of my chaos is just too wonderful!

Today I”m starting with a quick clean on my counters, because they got major cluttered with everything going on, and I need the space to put things while I clean drawers and cabinets. So decision time. My first step, Simply doing a Belongs Here, Belongs Elsewhere sweep. I don’t worry where Elsewhere is, just put everything in a box and sort it as I get to the other rooms later.

MUCH LATER: Since the beautiful Bekah worked today, my kitchen is much further along. And this listing idea is making it much easier for me to communicate what my priorities are. If I’m scattered and all over the place, I can’t very well tell her what I need done. Now once I know it isn’t something to do myself, it goes on the Bekah list. Loooving this.

So here are the before pictures. I’ll post the after as they happen

stove

To be fair, my stove isn’t usually this cluttered. The counter next to it is, but I’m working from the door around to the other end, so the counter clutter had to move to the stove to make room to unload the fridge.

My baking drawer. Not too bad.

This needs some work, as I dumped some of the food goods in here during the pantry clean.

Pretty sure this drawer needs some sorting.

Love almost empty drawers! This just has my overflow of pretty straws.

The scariest corner in the kitchen. Beside the sink, behind the microwave. Things just migrate there. It's like a time capsule.

Tupperware clone graveyard. It's at the wrong level for me, so when things get pushed to the back, they are virtually lost.

Pots and Pans. Purged these years ago and bought decent ones.

Ya know how you try something new, it doesn't quite work, but it just stays the same while you ignore it? This is that shelf.

I detest doing dishes. So I bought a countertop dishwasher. It's not hooked up. Sigh. But the dishrack folds up nicely when not in use. Which is, of course, never.

January Apartment Therapy The Cure.

This is my first Cure. The idea is Apartment Therapy posts challenges, guides, etc. and the rest of us follow along together. Of course, being my usual scattery self, I forgot I had signed up for it until the 6th, so missed the first few events. If you want to go along, the link is here: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/collection/january-cure-2015-468

Today’s project: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/10-minute-meditation-choose-a-project-the-january-cure-assignment-5-214533

So, meditate for about ten minutes, visualize what you want, choose a goal to get it. Next, pick a project you really want to get done this month. I’d already done the visualizing last night while doing the list. My project is decluttering the living area and entry. Getting the floor covering back down in the front entry.

To regress, the last project was clean the pantry. I don’t have a pantry, so I decided to clean out the food shelves. Here, for posterity is what clean shelves look like.

This is what clean food shelves look like!

This is what clean food shelves look like! Look! Empty space!

Mom was a canned food hoarder…oh the horror!…and that empty shelf space gives me both a feeling of panic and a feeling of accomplishment. Focusing on the accomplishment feeling!

And to my surprise, I ended up with this much to go elsewhere.

food All good food, just won’t get used anytime soon, so out it went to my friends. Otherwise it just sits until it expires. I’m no longer giving shelf space to things that won’t be used within a year.

I did snap photos of my living room, but I think I’ll video it instead. Stay tuned for breathtaking forays into organization!
