This coat rack had seen better days when the nice man sold it to me at a yard sale. It was painted black with a cheap plastic jewel stuck on for a sun. Luckily it turned out to be exactly that, a cheap plastic jewel that popped right off. A bit of sanding revealed dull gray metal. I wanted a verdigris look to it, but didn’t really know how to go about it. I sprayed gold paint in some areas and some dark turquoise left over from another project in other areas and smeared them around a bit. The next day I did the light aqua with the same interior house paint I used on the wall next to it, and wiped most of it off. I may spray a sealant on it eventually, but the wall part doesn’t get rubbed much and so far it’s holding up fine. Brings a nice touch of the focal wall color to an otherwise white area. I love getting compliments on my “rescued” decor!
